So Luke finally got to go see his first concert. I am very pleased that it was his favorite band of all time TMBG. It was a great show at a really cool venue. He was totally blown away throughout the show (as was I, see pics of me looking like a total fanboy)by the enormity of it all. They handed out giant foam hands, danced around, and dropped confetti during the concert. Now we can't get him to put down his guitar.

Old Dog, New Trick

We bought Luke some bathtub crayons several months ago and he has been working his fingers to the bone, coming up with some truly good drawings.
But this is his greatest achievement.
I didn't really pay attention when he announced that he was going to draw the dog, it didn't sound too far out of his league, I was pretty surprised when he asked me to check it out. It was a perfect rendition of "Old Yeller"
"Wait a minute Dad, we forgot summin'", he dug through the cup of crayons and pulled out the red,"Here we go", he muttered as he added his final flourish.
"Finished."
I sat amazed. What do you say to such genius? What words could sum up my flood of emotions? The smile on his face showed no embarrassment, no shame of his art, laid bare for the whole house to see.
But the artist stood waiting, expectant, pleading for a critique of the masterpiece from his harshest of judges yet biggest fan.
"So, what is that?", I asked, pointing at the bright red appendages.
"That is he,, uh", suddenly he realized that he knew what they "were" and yet didn't have the vocabulary to tell me exactly what he had depicted so perfectly.
"Those are, he uh", he gazed down at his own, in hopes that the word would be written across his belly or perhaps his "Willie Nelson" might sing out the word he so desperately searched for. A smile began to creep across his face as he brought his eyes up to meet mine," Those are he NUTS!"
We smiled at each other for a moment before he covered his mouth and laughed. This is what being a boy is all about.

An anatomically correct dog! I wonder how old Picasso was before he rendered his first nude? I bet he was older than 3! Honestly, "Old Yeller" don't look too pleased that he is left "hangin' in the wind". Red-eyed dogs are scary.

My favorite game ever. There is just something special about online games. Getting to meet (and blow to giblet gravy) people from all over the world and just have a good time. I would be a sucker for any of the online roleplaying games but they require LOTS of game time before you can really achieve anything grand. TF2 allows you to jump in and go at it, whether you want to play 10 minutes or 2 hours.
Mandy and I have been sick since Wednesday night so we had to let Luke spend the night at CC's house Thursday and Friday night. I believe that a played for over 15 hours in 3 days (and nights since my throat was on fire, I couldn't sleep) in between naps and a trip to the emergency room for Mandy's migraine.

The highlight of our trip to Memphis was Luke having to "go" while we were leaving Beale Street. I'm sure this isn't the first time this particular area of a parking lot has been urinated on. We were the ONLY people with a child and the only ones not drinking. Beale Street is like a giant outdoor bar with lots of different music.
(Chris) Like a seasoned bum, Luke didn't have any problem dropping trow on Beale street to "Strain the Potatoes".
Hopefully he didn't get the "pee shivers".

This is why I love youtube. One of the Engineers at work sent me a slide show of this amazing crystal cave. I've always been a bit of a rock collector (that is why I love my job) but this was just over the top type crystals. These are the largest formations in the world. Pretty amazing stuff. I guess we will be planning a vacation to Chihuahua, Mexico soon.

Luke has started to use the camera. I was hesitant at first because I didn't want him to destroy the camera but then I thought that he might be a photo prodigy.(Plus, he threw a fit) Interesting side note to this photo, he is now using the potty pretty regular.
Note the centering of the subject is pretty good. The cat seems every bit as weirded out as I am that he is taking his picture.
I love the angle of this one. The cow mailbox has long been one of his favorite items in the house.
The bathtub crayons are fun.
His first attempt at a self portrait came up a little short but still pretty funny.

This might be the greatest concert footage ever. My favorite band (Fugazi), absolutely crammed onto a stage covered with fans, playing one of my favorite songs. But that isn't what makes the video so great, it is the guy in the middle of the background, dancing ( I guess it is dancing) wearing a miniskirt.
I remember being at a concert once and being passed by a bearded man in a wedding dress, complete with veil.

We have lots of updates in the works but I just wanted to let everyone know that I have been granted a Director's account on Youtube. That means that I can upload videos that are over 10 minutes in length and a few other fancy extras, none of which really matter.
I uploaded the eating contest from this weekend's Concord Baptist Youth Retreat just to test the +10 minute "water". I will be releasing an editted version later with extra camera angles and all that but I just wanted to see how long it took to upload.

First Haircut

Yeah, this was a little late considering he looked kinda shaggy. (just like his dad)A 2 year old shouldn't have to wipe the hair out of his eyes.
Luke was a great sport about the whole thing, not crying and sitting relatively still.
Stephanie has been cutting Mandy's hair for quite some time and just recently started cutting mine. (due in part to my regular hair person, Nadia,taking an extended trip home to Pakistan)

3 Years in Review Pt. 1

Okay, so this is a little looonngg. Oh well, I had a lot of fun putting it together. It is very difficult to make a photo montage movie that is worth watching and I am not sure if I pulled it off. Watch part 1 and then 2. They were originally one video but it was too big a file for Youtube so I had to split it.
The song/songs are Polyphonic Spree doing a live show on a morning radio show. They are just such a happy group.

This is my favorite childrens book. I bought it several weeks after Luke was born and we have been reading it quite frequently to him before bed. (along with several hundred other books he keeps beside the bed)I never put too much into interpreting the book until I read this.

My favorite childrens book growing up was Where The Wild Things Are. Luke has enjoyed it a lot too. So much so that I asked my mother to make him a wolf suit of his own for Halloween. Now we knew that most people wouldn't get it and that it would seem odd but I knew that he would get a real kick out of being "The King of All Wild Things" for at least one night. My mom did an awesome job with the costume and we all had a blast. A true "Wild Rumpus" was had by all. The following posts are our renditions of the first three pages of the book. Maybe I should have Luke pose out each page for our own version.

Portrait Innovations has got the right idea when it comes to selling pictures. 1. Don't rush the customer 2. Take LOTS of pictures 3. Do whatever it takes to make the kids laugh. 4. Offer several poses with several props. 5. Allow the customer to see ALL the photos on a big screen T.V. so you can see all the details and blemishes up front. 6. Offer simple price packages with a wide range of prices (go as cheap or expensive as you want) 7. Pictures printed while you wait.(We got ours within 15 minutes) 8. Give the customer a CD of ALL the photos to take home and email, print, or my favorite, post on the web.

We had a total meltdown during the wardrobe change. Luke felt like he was on fire and couldn't quit rubbing his eyes. He was so tired. I have no idea how the girls taking his picture got him smiling again but it was magic. They really went above and beyond to get good pictures. I remember one girl was holding a football right off camera and letting Luke kick it out of her hands, she would duck back as Luke laughed at her chasing the ball. She must have done it a dozen times for 3 photos.

These overalls have some miles on them. I had my picture made in them, my brother, his 2 daughters, and I believe 3 second cousins also. The straps were removed somewhere along the way so my mom used a bandana to replace them. One day, Lukes children will too.

Ramblin' Luke

I decided to make another video with the cowboy footage since you really couldn't tell wht was going on in the last one. Luke was a little tired by the end so he got a little crazy which makes for good videos.
The music is by Joe Thompson, whom we got to see at City Stages several years ago. A quick check of my Ipod shows that I listen to this album twice as much as anything else I own. I see that they have 31 copies for sale at $7.99 which is a steal. I can't cut grass or do yardwork without this playing.(either in the headphones or just in my head) At least give it a listen. Cowboy Luke

Luke decided to wear his boots and hat the other night and I HAD to video it.
Funny story about Willie Nelson. We decided to name "down there", Willie. You know, "Your Willie needs washing." and such. Well, it moved on to "Willie Nelson" after a while.
"The Red Headed Stranger" is one of my favorite albums. My parents owned it and we listened to it a lot. I was thrilled when they gave it to me several months ago. I was playing it at home a few weeks ago when Luke went over to the record player and asked what it was.
I said,"Willie Nelson."
He looked in his diaper and then gave me a very weird giggle. Mandy started laughing and suggested that I told him the name of the album instead. I just handed the dust cover to her and let her read it for herself. We laughed for a long time, to Lukes amusement.
This weekend marks the 1 year anniversary of the accident. When the accident happened, she was praying for God to give her a testimony that would change peoples lives. (She had been asked to give her testimony at the womens retreat the following weekend) She left this afternoon to attend the Retreat this weekend, once again, to give her testimony, only this time she has what she asked for. God is truly awesome in the way he works. Now I know what it means when I read that his ways are higher than ours. I pray that God blesses all of you this week.

Luke Gone Wild

Eli came to visit a few days ago and the camera was rolling.
Unfortunately, Eli has entered a "Flinching and Dodging" phase which translates to Luke has entered a "Hitting" phase. Ah, the terrible 2s.
While watching the footage, I kept thinking back to watching The Benny Hill Show with my parents and how, at the end, Benny Hill would chase a slew of girls around in fast forward while "Yakkity Sax" played in the background. Benny Hill usually would slap an old man on the head a few times each episode too.
I guess Eli gets to play the old man part in this video while Luke plays Benny Hill. Our cats, Alowishus and Devedander play the slew of girls.(No pun intended, dirty minds)
I will try to salvage some footage of Eli by editing out Luke hitting him constantly. (oh, the clip of Eli making the "ribbit" sound is editted to make him audible over the music so don't think that he got possessed or anything.)

We got invited to Mandy's sister's birthday party at "Pump It Up" playplace and I couldn't resist the video opportunity. (or the chance to play)
This is my first video using Windows Movie Maker. It is SO much easier than Nero. Sorry for the over-use of the effects but it was just too easy. At least I didn't talk in this one.
Yes, we were all very tired by the time it was over (only 2 hours but then, I am 31 now)

Okay, this is one of the simplest, yet addictive games I have ever played.

We went to see the Wiggles last Friday night.Unfortunately, Luke had not had a nap all day, so he asked for night-night as we walked in the arena. He was a zombie for much of the show, turning down soda and cotton candy. Only this Wiggle Wand ($9!) held his attention.
